Our review.
My wife and I have been to the Monsenor on two occasions and are going back in August 2002. We like it because of the fact that there are no kids allowed under 16 years of age. Our kids are grown up now so we have had our time of holidays with them. It is great to sit at the pool and not be splashed or interrupted when you are reading a good book. Don't get me wrong, I love kids but I do not want to go on holidays with someone else's kids.
The Monsenor sits on a steep hill so if you have walking difficulties I would advise against booking it. The rooms are very nice and they are 1 bedroom apts so there is a lot of room to move about.
The restaurant is nice and clean and you will always find something to eat.
The entertainment is quite good and is adult based and they are quick at serving at the bar for an all-inclusive hotel.
The main pool is at the top of the complex and there is a bar up there which is open during the day. The guy who usually works there is called John and he is a laugh a minute (not), you will see what I mean if you go there.
The little center at the bottom of the hill has a couple of good pubs if you want a break from the hotel. There is also a very nice man-made beach about 20 minute's walk away. All in all it is a very good hotel for a nice relaxing holiday and anyone who I have spoken to who has been there seemed to have enjoyed it.

My review:
Enjoyed reading the comments and site regarding the Monsenor, however there were several things that appear to be different now.
KIDS - there were about 15 kids during the week I was there, including some from Britain, although Airtours do not accept bookings for kids at the hotel. The other children were from Germany, Spain and Holland. So all I'm saying is don't believe when you go that there will be no kids.
RESTAURANT - I reluctantly packed trousers and shoes to wear in the restaurant for the evening but found gentlemen wearing shorts. I resorted to wearing shorts for the rest of the holiday, so it is not a rule that you must wear shorts in the evening in the restaurant. Also, we had to get our own drinks from the bar to accompany our meals. On the first night we asked one of the waiters about drinks and pointed us to the bar.
BUILDING WORKS - sadly this is currently happening opposite the hotel. A very noisy drill starts up about 9.00 a.m. and continues until 18.30. There was a short "siesta" between 1300 & 1400. The noise wasn't very noticeable at the top swimming pool but obviously the further you got nearer the road the noisier it got.
BAD POINTS -
a) The flume on the top pool and the miniature golf apparently haven't been working for a long time.
b) Only one drink allowed per all-inclusive card per person. This meant continually going to and from the bar.
c) Two of the first sets of lifts were not working during the whole week of my stay therefore long waits at the bottom.
GOOD POINTS - if you've got this far you'll think I'm complaining about everything! I did enjoy my week at the Monsenor. Food, drink, staff and even daytime activities were very good. I would certainly go back again.

My review:
My boyfriend and I stayed at Monsenor between the above dates. We didn't actually go with Airtours as we were staying in a friend's apartment. However, we would thoroughly recommend Monsenor, which was first class, very tidy, clean, with helpful staff.
First of all we would like to say how much we have enjoyed reading your website and the reviews of other people who have visited Monsenor. In particular, thanks to Brian Harvey who told us about the Amadores beach, which is 20 minutes, walk from the apartments. We spent almost every day on that beach and usually had a very large English breakfast (for only 425 pts).
We haven't given the food any star rating due to the fact we were self-catering and didn't eat at Monsenor. The main reason for this being that we were spoilt for choice with restaurants both at the beach and at the Centre in Puerto Rico. The restaurant does look very nice and we have heard very good reports from other people who were staying there.
The pool was very pleasant and I am pleased to report that there were no children at all during our stay. The flume is also now fully operational, as are all the lifts!
As far as building works are concerned, they are still ongoing, but didn't come close to annoying us in any way - although our apartment was at the opposite end of the hotel from where the works were taking place. We have to say, that throughout the area of Play Del Cura, there are quite a lot of building works going on but it didn't spoil our holiday in the least. We will be back next year!
Hope this review is helpful to those people who are planning to go to Monsenor in the near future.

My review:
My girlfriend Linda and I booked through Airtours with the accommodation being fixed on arrival. Ensure when booking this type of deal that you let your travel/booking agent know, if you think it is relevant, your respective ages and basic requirements. I did and was allocated the Monsenor as I had requested a quiet site. The bonus was no kids! Sorry family people out there (late 40's, been there, washed the nappies etc.). Seems that Spanish building regs changed since the Monsenor was opened meaning that the balconies don't meet the current laws. Balcony wall needs to be 3 inches taller to allow kids to stay. Beware if you are offered this accommodation by dodgy agents as in the event of an accident you could have your hands full trying to make a claim. Airtours know the score.
ROOMS - Good standard, lacks ventilation in the bathroom. A couple of cockroaches spotted in an apartment but no crawlies at all in ours. For piece of mind use the safe, key from reception for a small fee and deposit. Hire a fan too at the same time. Comfy beds with clean, crisp linen. Plenty of towels. Coin-op TV, 5 Spanish channels, BBC World News, CNN, Turner Classic Movies and Eurosport. 100 pesetas gets you 40 minutes.
RESTAURANT - Excellent food with multi-choice at dinner. Air conditioning was working on our visit, a welcome relief having fried for most of the day. Always clean with cutlery and crockery immaculate. Central self-service layout. Could do with being laid out more methodically. E.g. If you choose to start with soup this is located as you enter the room. However, the bread/butter is at the complete opposite end of the room! Main course is located in the middle section. So when you choose which meal to choose you have to backtrack to the first section against the flow of traffic. A minor irritation but a pain when it's busy.
I tipped the drinks waiter on my first visit for dinner and received excellent service for the rest of the week. (See if it works for you).
They seem to let men wear shorts at dinner so long as they are the "dress" type.
POOLS - Never used them myself but Linda reckoned they were clean and always said of the temperature. "It's ok once you are in!!" Flume at the top pool operational.
ENTERTAINMENT - Adult based (carry-on style on a Sunday). Quick game of Bingo at 9, usually a 10 minute quiz at 9.30 with a singer or similar following until 11.30. We were on a half board basis but prices were really good. (Upgrade to all-inclusive-2700 pesetas per person per day.) Bar closes at 11.45 prompt although you will get a drink in plastic cups as a take-away. Some of the apartments are full-time occupied by private individuals hence the strict hours to keep the noise down. The Waterloo bar at the foot of the hill (3 mins down, 20 to get back), is where the locals and reps drink after hours. Good laugh.
BUILDING WORKS - Still ongoing as they attempt to build around from the Monsenor. Only one day I would say that it was oppressive. The Airtours rep was on top of this and said he would report it back to his head office. So ask the latest situation before you confirm your booking.
EATING OUT - Upstairs in the central shopping area (next to McDonalds) in Puerto Rico. Try El Guanche for excellent steaks and fresh oven baked pizza cooked by an Italian.
Their house red wine is excellent. By the glass or jug.
Would go back again.....

My review:
The view from the room was superb, and I would imagine that it's very similar from every room in the hotel. The top pool was quality and I found myself in tough competition on the tennis courts, either at tennis or football, which ever, I don't know where the energy came from in that heat! The cave bar came to my rescue with refreshments probably every 10 minutes!! The entertainers were amazing! Taffy and Bridget what a laugh, I hope the entertainment will be as good this year, as we enjoyed it so much last year, we booked to come back this year!!
The hotel itself was good, and well looked after, the bar was open until midnight, and with there being no child bookings, the entertainment was a little more "adult" but fun more than anything. If midnight is too early, then there is a few bars at the bottom of the street open until a lot later or Puerto Rico, (I think that's how you spell it!!) with a taxi been so cheap it doesn't cost anything really! I dread to think how much the distance would cost in a taxi back home!!
Overall it was an excellent holiday and I would recommend the Monsenor to anyone! Last year there was a good crowd of people there too and the mix of age and where people were from in the UK was good too. I hope I have the pleasure of the Monsenor again this year!

My review:
My wife and I have just arrived home today (9th June) having had a very enjoyable week's holiday at the Monsenor Hotel. It was our first visit to the Island and we hope to return again.
The hotel is located in a quiet area, which is what we wanted, a place to 'chill out'and relax.
Our room was very clean with ample towels, which were changed frequently. There is no air conditioning but you can hire a fan if necessary.
The main restaurant was very clean, and all the staff were polite, attentive and made us feel welcome. All-inclusive really did mean what it said with an unlimited supply of food and drink. The food at the beginning of the week was very 'British' but got better during the middle of our holiday due we believe to a change of staff, with more 'Canarian' choices available. Quality of the food was first class, with the heated food trays being replenished very frequently.
Drinks, including water were only served in the bar outside the restaurant, which of course meant leaving the table for a re-fill. Although we found this acceptable, it would have been nice if there was a cold water dispenser inside the restaurant, located, perhaps by the excellent tea, coffee and juice machines.
As well as main courses, snacks were available in the 'Cave Bar' at the top swimming pool. However the snacks here were very limited in choice.
Daytime activities included Aerobics, French bowls, mini golf and 'killer pool'. The main entertainment in the evening started at 9pm each day with a game of Bingo followed by a Quiz and sometimes a live act. Look out for the Hypnotist show, which was a real eye opener.
Rick and Sarah hosted good entertainment.
All in all, a very enjoyable stay and well recommended.

My review:
THE HOTEL IT SELF WAS EXCELLENT AND CLEAN. THE ROOMS WERE CHANGED VERY REGUARLY. WHERE THE HOTEL WAS SITUATED WAS EXCELLENT, YOU HAD EXCELLENT VIEWS OF THE BEACH. IF YOU LIKE WALKING THERE ARE SOME VERY PRETTY WALKS FROM PLAYA DEL CURA TO PUERTO RICO. YOU CAN WALK ON A WALKWAY, WHICH IS MADE BELOW THE MAINROAD, WHICH GOES AROUND THE MOUNTAIN.
SWIMMING POOLS:
ARE KEPT VERY CLEAN AND TIDY. HOWEVER, THE DOWN FALL OF IT IS, THERE ARE NEVER ENOUGH UMBRELLAS, SO THEREFORE YOU NEED TO GO ABOUT 9AM TO GET ONE.OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO COOK UNDER THE SUN.
ROOMS:
THE ROOMS WERE CLEANED EVERY DAY. THEY WERE IN EXCELLENT STANDARDS, BUT
COULD GET HOT DURING THE DAY.
RESTAURANT:
THIS WAS VERY CLEAN AND A VERY RELAX ATMOSPHERE, SO THERE WAS NO REASON TO GET REALLY DRESSED UP. THERE IS A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT DISHES TO SUIT ALL. HOWEVER WE FOUND THE DISHES WERE VERY ENGLISH. THERE WAS NOTHING SPANISH. MOST OF THE CAKES AND CROISSANTS WERE STALE AND OLD TASTING. ALSO THERE ISN'T ANY FRESH FRUIT IN THE MORNINGS. THE HEADWAITER WAS FANTASTIC. HE TOLD US PLACES WHERE TO VISIT, AND MADE US FEEL VERY WELCOME AND AT HOME. WE NEVER GOT TO SAY GOOD-BYE, AS WE HAD A BIG TIP FOR HIM.
ENTERTAINMENT:
FOR SUCH A BIG COMPLEX, THEY DIDN'T HAVE A LOT OF DAY ENTERTAINMENT (GAMES), AND THEY WERE REPETITIVE. RICK THE REP WAS A LAUGH.
RECEPTION:
PAULA WAS VERY HELPFUL AND CHEERFUL. THE AREA WAS VERY CLEAN. ALTHOUGH I THOUGHT THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD A TELEVISION ROOM FOR THOSE WHO ARE WAITING FOR A PICKUP.
BUILDING WORK:
THERE WAS ALOT OF DUST AND NOISE, AS THE BUILDING WORK STARTED 08.00AM-18.30PM, JUST OUTSIDE THE HOTEL. YOU COULDN'T HEAR THE NOISE FROM THE SWIMMING POOL. HOWEVER, YOU COULD HEAR IT FROM THE ROOM. SO YOU COULDN'T HAVE A SIESTA.
YOU MAY THINK I AM MOANING A LOT, BUT I AM JUST POINTING OUT SOME POINTS FOR FUTURE VISITORS. HOWEVER, THERE ARE MORE GOOD POINTS THAN BAD. THE HOTEL IS EXCELLENT, CLEAN, FRIENDLY AND IN A QUITE LOCATION WITH EXCELLENT VIEWS.
I WOULD CERTAINLY VISIT MONSENOR AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

This was my first holiday abroad and we couldn't have wished for anything better. I must admit when we arrived at he Monsenor we were tired it was raining. There had been a hold up at the airport, so we were late arriving. It was about 10.30pm. My first impression was, I was worried, for in the hotel reception as we arrived, there was a lady on the phone and she was slagging everything off the food, the entertainment, the accommodation, and everyone was listening as she was not speaking quietly. I must say she made us feel worse but I'm glad to say she was wrong. I loved it and so did my boyfriend Robin. We had a great week. I enjoyed everything, the entertainment could have been a little better. But it's what you make it. We were half board at the Monsenor and for a little extra per day, could have gone all-inclusive. I think it worked out at something like £12 to do it per day, which meant if you wanted a lazy day, pay the extra and get all your food and drink all day long. This we did not find out until it was nearly home time, but there is notice up in reception about it and I think its worth while.
My only moan must be the organized coach trips. The Airtours reps did these and we went on only one and made sure we wouldn't go on another. We went on a trip to Sioux City, it was supposed to be a BBQ and all you could drink. There was no mention that it would be the awful cheap spirits they serve up in some places and the choice was none. BBQ was tough pork chop an uncooked chicken leg and a very hard baked potato. I did complain to the rep the day after and she said 'oh I thought it was nice. I never said anymore, we just decided we would go on no more trips. This one had cost £50 for the two of us, a complete waste of money. Just save your money for something better!!!10/10

My review:
I really enjoyed my stay at Monsenor. The only negative thing about my stay was the fact that I was only there for one week!!
The activities during the day all took place at the top pool. These included french bowls, killer darts, killer pool, mini-glof, table tennis and water polo. There is also a tennis court at the top pool. The other pools are really quiet and are only suitable if you wish for a quiet holiday.
There is a bit of building work going on outside the Monsenor, but it didn't bother me in the slightest. You might be able to hear it if you go to one of the quite pools, but at the top pool, you cannot hear it at all.
The fact that no under 16's were allowed to stay at Monsenor was a good thing because you didn't have to sit through all the kids entertainment at night. It also allowed the rep, Rick, to tell quite a few rude jokes.
I found the food to be really good, although some people who were staying for 2 weeks began to get a little bored of it. Every night there will be fish, beef, chicken and pork served in one form or another. If you are still a bit peckish after your dinner, the snacks start at 9.30pm in the restaurant. Snacks are also available from the bar at the top pool from around 11.00am to 5.30pm where you can get toasties, burgers, hot dogs and chicken wings.
The entertainment at night began at 9pm with bingo and then a quiz. At roughly 10.30pm the main entertainment began which will range from singers to hypnotists. They also had a Mr and Miss Monsenor competition which was quite funny. The bar shuts at 11.45pm and afterwards a lot of people from Monsenor, including the reps, goes down to a pub at the bottom of the hill called Waterloo which is a karoke pub. There is also an Irish pub next to it.
If you want to go into Puerto Rico for a change. It is only around £2 for a taxi.
My overall holiday was excellent and i would gladly go back any time.

My review:
I visited the Monsenor with my wife and 16 year old daughter and we arrived around 5am, rather tired after a long journey to be greeted with a stand there and have your photo taken. We were then given a map showing us the way to our room that involved three lifts and we were sent on our way. Brian and Viv, who became friends received a similar intoduction so we were not of to the best of starts, not so much as a welcome or a smiling face to greet us.
We reached our room to find a spacious apartment with a large balcony and a good view out to sea. We also had a great view of the building works which went on all day but I must admit that the noise didn't bother us much, as we were right at the top of the complex.
We were pleased with the apartment throughout our stay and the cleaners were around most days if we needed them.
FOOD:- Food at the Monsenor is fairly basic and the meals are repetitive. Expect to receive the same food with a few changes at lunch as you had the previous evening. I can eat anything and got by quite well. My wife found it more difficult and several people who had been at the Monsenor in previous years commented, and indeed complained to management at the standard of the food, and they felt that it had deteriorated since last year.
ENTERTAINMENT:- Rick and Zara are in charge of the entertainment and they did well albeit on a low budget. There were notable successes such as the hypnotist, a magician and a couple of female singers. In between those visiting acts, they put on shows such as you bet and blankety blank which were more entertaining than you may think. During the days there are competitions involving darts, pool, table tennis etc. Not bad.
STAFF:- I found the comments on this site re staff as being furthest off the mark. I went to the Monsenor expecting first class service and we were disappointed in the main. The staff seldom smile and are more going through the motions than trying to provide a service. An example of this was the two bar staff at night, Ramiro and Jose. The were very serious and almost threw the drinks on to the bar as they hurried from one customer to the other. They bordered on being rude as they gesticulated for the next patron to come forward to them rather than them going to the customer, the norm in our country. Many people were rightly put out by their attitude.
Some of the staff were very good. We particularly liked 'Ali G', a waiter and a male receptionist. They both were fun to be with and had great inter personal skills.
MAINTENANCE:- Unfortunately it looks as if the Monsenor is falling on hard times and this is evident in its maintenance. Examples of this are the cracked and worn table tennis table and pool tables. Both toilets at the entertainment bars had broken locks throughout our stay etc, etc.
We enjoyed our stay at the Monsenor despite the failings that I have pointed out. We believe that as we got a geat late deal, we received value for money. We would have been less than pleased however if we had paid the full whack.
Hope you have a great visit when you go and I can expand on details above for anyone who wants to E Mail me re anything they might want to know

My review:
I visited the Monsenor with my fiancé in June this year and we really enjoyed our stay.
I will agree with previous comments regarding the food not quite being of an excellent standard, but it was edible and we didn't go hungry.
The entertainment did lack funding but did make us laugh. I took part in the Hypnotism night and I am now a true believer! Rick and Zara did an excellent job, well done!
The building work was a bit annoying, especially seeing as you couldn't keep your patio doors open due to noise and dust levels etc., not very good when temperatures are in the late 20's in the evening.
The pool area was excellent, really clean and away from the noise. The flume was in operation on our visit, and was well used! Only problem was that there wasn't nearly enough beds or umbrellas to go around, you found yourself up at the crack of dawn, (with the work men!) to get yourself a bed.
The staff we did find to be very rushed, they could do with several more staff helping out then maybe they could concentrate on the interpersonal skills a bit.
As for shorts in the evening, on several occasions my partner tried to gain access to the restaurant wearing shorts but was refused each time, resulting in a three lift hike back to our room (on the top floor) to change.
All things considered, if Puerto Rico hadn't been so near, our holiday wouldn't have been so good. We had some excellent nights (and days) out there with plenty to see and do, loads of bars and shops and there is even a McDonalds!
The Waterloo Bar at the bottom of the hill in Playa Del Cura was a good warm up for a night out in Puerto Rico, owned by an English couple, really nice, and they have karaoke every night!
I am sure you will enjoy your time at the Monsenor, we certainly did.

My review:
Got it as a late booking bargain, and was very happy. Two weeks all inclusive.
Food fine, accommodation comfy, beer free and free flowing !
Met up with any number of fantastic people, and Antonio in the cave bar upstairs was an absolute star.
Not gourmet food, so if that's what you're looking for, then this isn't for you, but what there is is plentiful and perfectly acceptable quality.
Building works over the road from the hotel are a bit noisy at the lower pools, but if you go up to the top pool or bar you would have to concentrate quite hard to be able to hear them !
If you go with Direct Hols, DO NOT take the trip to Loro Park. We were travelling for a total of 9hrs 30 minutes during the day to spend 6hrs 30 minutes (way too long) in the park itself. Nothing wrong with the park, but way way way too much travelling for a single day out. You also miss all of your "all inclusive" meals because of the timings.

My review:
This was our 4th visit to the Monsenor. The hotel and its attractions remain the same.
Food is repetitive but of a very reasonable standard.
Building works, although still in evidence, (they are STILL doing the groundwork) does not affect the holiday at all.
The only complaint I would have from previous visits is the evening entertainment. There was always a professional act every 2nd night. This time however, there were only two acts in 7 days and the rest left to Zara and Rick. Ok for a couple of nights but not 5 out of 7. This is the first time we have visited in July. Too hot and not enough shade, 1 umbrella in cave bar.
However, we still had a fantasic time and will visit again in Nobember

My review:
Food: Disgusting, OK, so there were chips but however much you like chips enoughs enough... and by the end of the week you'll never want to see chips again! There was other food I suppose but... you had to be one of those people who would eat anything and everything! The food was the same each night and there were only slight changes. It got very boring!
Entertainment: Bingo every night, a quick quiz and sometimes a show of some kind. The entertainment was good fun thanks to Zara and Rick who were very friendly.
Pools: 4 very nice pools, not too busy probably because they aren't heated and are quite cold. Oh yeah... Beware of the lilo thief! Do not leave your lilo's by the pool side whilst you are not there else you might become a victim of the lilo thief like I was. Two of my lilo's were taken from the pool side whilst I wasn't looking. If your reading this and you was the person who took the two lilos from the lowest pool you owe me £20.
Activities: Pool (8 BALL) - this is fun, there are 2 tables, but they are very poplular. Mini golf - hardly useable, hasn't been kept in good condition. Ping Pong - wasn't useable due to lack of ball. Childrens Playground - Looked nice. Daytime activities are available but I didn't join in so I can't say much about them.
Staff: Very friendly, except one man at reception is very grumpy.
Rooms: Very nice, beds not too comfy. Cockroaches are known to be in rooms. TV is available although nothing worth watching, however it is very cheap to use.

Our review.
We enjoyed our stay at the Monsenor however we would NOT recommend it to any one our ages (20-23).
The entertainment was "cheesy" but Rick and Zara did their best. However there are only so many games of bingo and quizzes that you can take! The magician was absolutely rubbish and the bar was closed for his whole act - missed out on valuable drinking time.
The building work was very noisy and did wake us up several times!
The top pool was excellent and the flume was fully operational, which was great!
The food was very repetitive and if you were fussy (like some of us) then chips was your staple diet!
Some of the staff were very arrogant, the shopkeeper and a couple of the bar staff!!
I can't believe no one has mentioned Cardiac Hill, a bit of a hike!
We did not appreciate the way we were treated on the last day of our holiday. Heard a lot of people complaining about various things.
Had a good holiday but don't think I would go back to the Monsenor.
P.S Needs a lot of upgrading!!!

Our review.
Building Work: BE WARNED Still in its groundwork stage so very noisy all day, the whole of area seems to be under construction!
Food: A decent standard but very repetitive and chips with everything, kitchen and restaurant kept very clean.
Entertainment: During the daytime based mainly around the top pool so unless you were up early to grab one of the few sun beds and even less umbrella's not very accessible. The evening entertainment consisted mainly of Bingo and Quiz's but due to the efforts of Airtours entertainers, 'Rick & Zara', everyone had a good laugh. Zara unfortunately has now been moved to another complex
Staff: Totally agree with previous comments, staff were arrogant and unwilling to give much help. The 'All Inclusive' bar stopped at 23:45 never mind if your in the queue or not, the queue being mainly due to one of the two bar staff collecting glass from 23:15 onwards, a clever ploy?? Benito deserves a mention for being the most helpful and polite member of staff.
Hotel: Showing signs of age, cracked concrete, swimming pools requires repainting, lifts had a habit of either not working or stopping between floors.
Had a laugh mainly due to the interaction between other holiday makers created by Rick and Zara's entertainment programme but won't be returning.

My review.
Hahahahah this holiday was a complete laugh, but i suppose its what u make of it. I went as a last minute deal with my friend Siobhan, im 21 and she is 23.
RESORT: We both felt the resort was quiet, but good if u like that sort of thing. There is a small friendly irish pub, and a mad karioke pub next to each other at the bottom of 'cardiac hill'. There is also a spar, and some restaurants (but we didnt visit these). We usually went into Puerto Rico by taxi, which cost 3 euros, about £1.50, very good price. Puerto Rico has much more shops, pubs, restaurants and mini clubs. *Watch out for the "looky looky guys", they tend to grab girls our age!!!!!*
ACCOMODATION: We were lucky, our apartment was right next to the reception, so we didnt have far to walk (which was good considering we couldnt walk). There was a TV, which is coin operated, dont put money in, cos all you get is crap channels. The balcony is a great size (which hosted many of our parties, and fun and games with Rick!!!!!!) They were regularly cleaned, and our dishes were washed YIPPPEEE!!!!
POOLSIDE: Hahaha there were plenty of loungers, but umbrellas were hard to come by, i usually sheltered under a tree in the peak heat. The top pool is the best to chill by, it has a flume, its deep, and there is a wee cave bar when u feel peckish. Rick will continuously pester you to join in his daytime entertainment, i could never be botjhered cos i was to tired and hungover, but they looked like fun.
BAR & RESTAURANT: Ehhh....... staff were lovely, drink was good, but it wasnt my taste of food. The quality was okay, but there wasnt much of a selection. I lost my appetite on the 4th day, and had to go to Puerto Rico for a good ol mcdonalds!!!!
ENTERTAINMENT: Well we only had one entertainment rep when we stayed, and that was Rick. He tried his best to please us with quizes (which we lost), bingo (which we didnt do), karioke (song choice was poor) and numerous audience games (top class). After hours........ Rick became his true self......total horny tart!!!! Beware those who talk to him, do not take him back to your apartment after a few drinks, cos he'l tempt u to bed, and you'll never get rid of him.........then the next day.......he's after someone else. hahahhaha The day before we left, a new guy came along to help Rick, his name was Lee, hes gorge, and he'll definately break some hearts.
FRIENDS: You'll have the chance to meet some of the greatest folk in your life. During our stay we came across Lewis & Toni, who are brother and sister, and they stay over there. Their parents moved there 7 weeks ago to work, and the kids go brought over. Lewis,11, is a total hoot, he'l keep you entertained all the time, and he knows all the gossip of the apartments. Toni, 13, (looks 18), is gorge, and you'll find her dancing or singing in the karioke bar down the road. The friends we met have prob left now, but we'll never forget them, our photos will help us there.
EXCURSIONS: I'm not an "excursion person", this was my first time doing them, but they were great.
We went to: SIOUX CITY: Western theme park, free bar, bbq, and a chance to dress up as cowboys and shoot each other. Then to finish the locals put a show on for 90mins, on a wooden bench (gives u a sore bum, i recommend u stay at the bar).
DOLPHIN CRUISE: We were lucky, we saw around 50 dolphins jumping at the front of the boat, an amazing sight, but apparently very rare.
FOAM PARTY: Oh my God!!!!! this was amazing, free bar, free bbq, and tons of foam, top tunes, and loads of folk talking their clothes off. This was the best by far, a must see for all those true clubbers. *ps dont wear good clothes*
PIRATE SHIP BOOZE CRUISE: We did this with escapades, it was mad, free bar, lots of drinking games to be done. If u are caught with only one drink, u have to do a forfeit, so uv been warned!!
WATER SPORTS: wow...jet skis, banana boat, and speed boat, and lunch all included. Loads of fun if u feel the need for speed (and getn soaking wet).
MY ADVICE: If u wana relax during the day in a quiet resort this is the place, cos u have a small taxi journey into Puerto Rico for the busy stuff. Im more an ibiza girl, but i thouroughly enjoyed my holiday, and i didnt want to leave. I would go back, but prob with a boyf. I dont think Monsenor is for groups of girls or guys going out for a laugh, its more a couples accomodation. P.s visit the pool by moonlight (dont get caught) its ace!!!!!

My review.
Have just spent a week at the Monsenor and after reading all the previous reviews wanted to have my say on the following:-
STAFF: I found all the staff extremely helpful, cheerful and polite and did not experience any arrogance or bad manners.
FOOD: Well, all I can say about the food is it certainly wasen't to my taste or standards, but the choice was reasonably good, and you certainly would not go hungry. I found breakfast the worst meal, I have no idea where an earth they get the bacon from, I'm sure it's not a pig !!
APARTMENT: It was a very good size, with an excellent sized patio, it could have been cleaner, although not filthy by any stretch of the imagination. Very basic reference kitchen and was very glad I was not self catering. The Monsenor is showing signs of age and lack of investment, but nevertheless still basically good.
ENTERTAINMENT: What I would call "working mans club" standard and I do not mean that in a snobish way, I suspect its all down to personal taste, and just not my scene.
BUILDING WORK: The whole of that side of Gran Canaria seems to be under major construction, from our patio with about 3/4 mile view before the first bay I could see a total of 13 cranes, another 12 were around the bay. Yes it did affect my holiday, the noise of a continuous pneumatic drill, bulldozers etc. could not help but get on your nerves and the dust was a problem, but having said all that it did not really spoil my stay.
RESORT: Painfully quiet, I like to stay in a relatively quiet area and travel to the noise, but equally, did not really want to spend a week in a morgue !! Puerto Rico is extremely nice, just beware of being constantly hassled by "lookie lookie" guys and people trying to drag you into the bars.
POOLS: Four pools in total and every one of them severly lacking in umbrellas, resulting in people huddling around what few there were and under the occasional palm trees to get out of the seering mid day heat, plenty of sunbeds though.

My review.
Overall we got what we paid for with our stay at the Monsenor. We booked at the last minute and got a good deal. We only found out about the building work the day before we travelled and if you want a bit of piece and quiet, do not go to this hotel due to the building work going on. In saying that, the whole side of the island seems to be getting built up just now, so maybe in a few years time, this whole area will be better.
The meals. Well, do not expect anything special. Our main problem was that my wife is a veggie and all she had was salad and even then some of the dishes had meat or fish in them. The soup was nice but it was potluck most of the time to see what was in it. The signs for the food are poor just telling you it is a beef, pork, chicken or fish dish, nothing telling you what the sauce was, so you had a stew most nights same as the pasta sauce chefs special had ham and tomato in it well I can make more of a special sauce than that. The best night was the BBQ why the meat had no sauce on it so you could add your own.
The bar staff. Well, my hat must go off to the main bar staff, Benito, Ramino, Himim and the big Cuban guy whose name we never did find out. They at least tried to make your holiday pleasant and made you feel at ease and were most helpful, but as always, there is one bad apple in the barrel, Antonio, the barman at the top pool bar. This guy makes you think that it's his own food and drink you are asking him for and was always in a grump if you asked him for anything. Whatever you do, do not ask him for food in the first hour on the last hour because he thinks it is a major hassle.
The hotel staff, again, most of them were very pleasant, mainly young Paula. The only bad one was George, well that is how you translate in it in English. This guy was a twat, the fan is only 12 euros not 16 as he tried to charge me the first day I got there, but hey it was my fault, not his. I only read the information sheet. Also he called some younger guest a piece if shit for being too happy. When I asked for his name, he became stropy and would not tell me, telling me, even through it was my last night, he could still throw me out. I should have complained to the manager but as we were leaving that morning, who wants the hassle.
Entertainment. Well thank god for Lee, he is the new guy who arrived the first week we were there and was always doing his bit. Due to it being a new crowd, he was superb and we all enjoyed his antics. Rick was ok, but I got the impression that he has had a few tough weeks there with guests not getting involved.
So, overall I did enjoy the Holiday but I think that was due to the company we met.

Returned from the Monsenor last week. We had a fantastic holiday.
The Hotel is superb and although the rooms were nicely furnished, they could do with a bit of refurbishment. The view from the room was fantastic.
Good choice of pools. The top pool being quite busy and the lower pools are quiet and suitable for sunbathing.
As far as the building works, they are still going on, but did not spoil the holiday.
Staff were very good, especially Benito, the waiter, who we found to be very friendly and helpful.

I wrote a review of my holiday last year and I am pleased to say I had a better time than last year.
The hotel is across from a building site right now, but that makes no difference to the holiday at all, it was fantastic.
The guys who entertained us, Rick and Lee (HARDER!!) were very funny, and we had some good laughs with everyone.
Lee, if you read this then email me as I am having trouble emailing you! C'mon!

My review.
Just returned from the monsenor hotel on Monday, well what can I say, something seems to be missing, can't fault the staff, food very repetitive, fish beef or chicken all served with chips every night.
People wishing for a child free holiday be warned, there are residents with kids who seem to be there all day at the main pool, not what we wanted.
The building work is not as bad as some people make out.
The resort is very quite. If you want night life don't bother, two pubs and a spar shop and a couple of restaurants.
Can't fault the Airtours reps, they do as good a job as they can on limited resources.
The jeep safari is a must great day out.

My review.
We enjoyed our holiday at the Monsenor, but felt that there was room for improvement. Our holiday did not cost very much compared to other holidays available and feel that we got what we paid for.
The accomodation was roomy; entertainment staff were OK. The entertainment hired for the night was generally good - comedians being the best.
Bar staff very pleasant and hardworking, snacks at night not particularly exciting and you had to sit in canteen on your own in the dark to eat them.
Building work still going on when we were there late September early October 2002 (not complete or anywhere near as per your comments) starting at 8:15am, very dusty and noisy - we were not given option to change hotel; felt a bit of tension between residents @ hotel and guests (residents seemed to be upset at the noise generated by guests when entertainment underway @ night).
Swimming pools a bit shabby and in need of some maintenance. Balconies very large and nice to sunbathe on when the building work stopped on Saturdays and Sundays.
Hotel suitable for fit and healthy people only as there are hills, hills and more hills.
Only one centre to shop nearby (this was however very good value and had most things you might need) but taxis were inexpensive.
Food was acceptable but became a bit boring with same ingredients but different sauce. Best thing - Bar staff Worst thing - nothing that bad!

Just returned from the Monsenor. This was my third visit, everything still as enjoyable, staff friendly .
The only thing I could complain about this time was the entertainment, only had 2 acts on the week we were there. Played the longest game of bingo in the world owing to the rep Lee messing about . I just found him a bit to much and not very entertaining at all.
Other than that, all was OK!

Me and three friends chose to go all-inclusive this year, and we are all very glad we chose the Monsenor!
The food was great, the staff were a laugh and the site itself was fine.
The one thing that we found annoying was the number of kids about, when we were told it was a no kid zone. Most of them were spanish kids who live on site, and we never had any trouble off them, but never the less they were kids.
The staff as I said were brilliant, especially big boy Benito!
I was just wondering from anyone who reads this, if they classify 17 year olds as kids, and would be bothered with them being there? I was 17 when i went last year and we got on with most of the older generation, but i was just curious really. Please e-mail me and let me know your response.
Many thanks
Beau

The Monsenor has stunning views over Playa del Cura and is, in our opinion, well worth a visit.
Be warned though there is some building work in the area, as there is in most of Gran Canaria ! The works were not too noisy the week we were there and being Spanish they do not start too early ! Around 9AM seemed to be the start time, with a finish at 6PM . No work was done at the weekend or after 6PM.
The apartments all have a sea view and there are 4 pools , one of which had no water in it, which made swimming difficult! The top pool, with an adjoining bar was far enough away from the building work to be peaceful and the pool has a water chute which was working.
All the lifts worked, there are three and the recepton was manned throughout 24 hours.
There is a small commercial centre nearby with an excellent restaurant "Las Aneas ", cheap food, excellent quality and good service. There are other bars including an Irish bar in this centre and your usual souvenir shops. Here is also the local supermarket , the Spar ! We found this cheaper than the shop in Monsenor.
The local beach is fairly quiet, however 20 minutes walk takes you to a superb man-made beach "Amadores " and 35 minutes will walk you to Puerto Rico beach, which has bars, snack bars, restaurants etc close to the sea.
The local taxis are cheap and we travelled by bus to Puerto Mogan, which has to be the best white-knuckle ride since Alton Towers ! It may seem a good idea to sit on the side of the bus which offers the best view of the scenery, however, dont be fooled ! The height of the drop and the standard of driving on the bus means that you will probably have your eyes shut most of the time and not see a great deal of scenery ! Puerto Mogan is however, well worth a visit.
The area is quite hilly and not suitable for people with walking difficulties and as we said there is a lot of building work in the area, however, it did not spoil our holiday and we would go again !

My review.
I am currently at Maspolomas and very disapointed because we were surposed to be staying at the Monsenor but on arrival at Las Palmas airport on the 20th of feb 2003, we were told by our Airtours rep that the Monsenor was being shut down on the 24th of Feb 2003 for a major referb job and it was going to be shut for up to 3 months. So we were sent to an other all-inclusive hotel in Maspolomas. I am not at all impressed with this new hotel and for the 1200 quid I have paid, I think I have been let down.

I have just returned from my 3rd visit to the Monsenor - hotel and staff as good as ever.
However, the building works are still using JCB mounted pneumatic drills & I guess that would be a problem if you have a low room & hang around your balcony a lot.
Airtours are suspending sending guests there from today (Mon 24th) for the next 3 months until things quieten down, if you are booked in you will be offered the Colina Mar in Puerto Rico instead (!). Guess those with holidays arranged through Airtours may already know this, best not to try a last minute booking in this period. We didn't find the building works a major issue, except in the restaurant which was like trying to eat in an earthquake zone. There was no noise at all at the top pool.

My review.
Arrived at the Monsenor about 6:15AM on Sunday 18th of May after taking off from Leeds/Bradford at 23:30PM ish, should have took off at 20:55PM, so had to spend extra time in the airport bar.
Had the Photos taken at reception on arrival then told the room number and given a map of how to get there. (direct route)now know how sherpas feel at the Himalayas after carrying 2 cases up half a dozen or so flights of stairs. After a couple of hours sleep found that we could have gone up to the next level by lift and walked down one flight. Apartment was ok, balcony nice and big, nice view of the tower cranes, but had been warned by the tour company and read the reviews off this site, new what to expect.
The building work was no major problem it has been going on for some time and it looks like it will carry on for the rest of this year but dont let it spoil your holiday, It didn't spoil ours.
We were all inclusive and so ate all our meals at the Monsenor restaurant, which were all very good, no complaints, if your planning on going you shouldn't have a problem finding something you like. Only downside would be that the waiters were a bit eager to clear up as soon as you had finished each course, this is probably because they have to keep replenishing the crockery, mainly because guests come in when they feel like it between the allocated times for breakfeast lunch and dinner. Oh yes just remembered, regarding the waring of trousers at dinner for the men, this rule was adhered to on Friday night as the staff had taken the trouble to dress up canarian style for the night. You'll probably be ok in the three quarter length shorts though as these were seen to be acceptable.
The rooftop pool was big enough and the waterslide was working ok so no problems there, the 2 lower pools were roped off for refurbishment but i am happy to report they are now open. The Cave bar opened at 11:00am and closed at 17:30pm, this also served snacks and Ramareo worked hard keeping everyone fed and watered. Bottled water is recommended but if you prefer drink water purified with hops!
Entertainment was provided by Meesha and Gaby, who worked very hard to motivate
